Our Corporate Social Responsibility
Financing the real economy, Societe Generale Equipment Finance supports the development of SMEs.
As part of the Societe Generale Group, Societe Generale Equipment Finance UK Ltd (SGEF) is committed to having a positive impact on our local communities. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is embedded in our culture and a big part of our company’s values.
Our charitable giving and volunteering programmes aim to raise educational aspirations, improve employability prospects and build stronger communities. As well as having a positive impact locally, our programmes provide benefit to our staff and the Group as a whole.
Our main focus is our staff selected Charity of the Year programme, currently with Mind for 2015-17. As a Group, our fundraising target over the next 2 years is to raise £600,000 to fund our ‘Advice to Action’ campaign, helping people with mental health problems to get back on track.
To help us achieve this Group target, SGEF organise a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, from cake bakes to raffles, to a range of sporting challenges. Here are just some of the ways in which we have contributed in the last year:
In August 2015, one of the SGEF UK Directors raised over £1700 by completing the Prudential Ride London 100, the 100 mile bike ride which followed the same course as the 2012 Olympic cycling road race. Well done Dominic!
In July 2015, five members of the SGEF UK team took part in the 5.6km JP Morgan Challenge race around Battersea Park alongside SG Group employees. As well as raising money for Mind, SGEF’s Diana Kreica (pictured far left) was the 2nd fastest female competing out of the SG Group. Well done all!
In Autumn 2014, 10 volunteers from SGEF braved the elements and took on the 24 Peaks Challenge in the Lake District. This trek involved climbing the highest 24 peaks – 5 of which were over 3000 feet - within 24 hours. The team took just 22 hours and 41 minutes over 2 days to complete the challenge, and were rewarded for their efforts by raising a staggering £18,241 for Alzheimer’s Society – our charity partner at that time.
We have a Group wide policy of 24 hours per year of volunteering time accessible for all employees. Employees can use this to undertake their own personal volunteering, or to access the range of programmes organised by Societe Generale.
There are opportunities for employees at all levels to engage in; from one-off employability, enterprise and business planning workshops and volunteering opportunities you can do from your desk, to ongoing primary tutoring, adult literacy sessions, mentoring and trusteeships. The SG Group work with a huge range of people from our neighbouring communities including pupils, young people, residents, charities, social enterprises and schools.
One way that SGEF encourages colleagues to get involved is through hosting ‘Enabling Enterprise’ workshops at our offices. Our employees volunteer their time to support local primary school students from Tower Hamlets and Hackney – two of the most deprived boroughs in the UK - through an enterprising challenge, helping to develop their planning and team work skills. It also helps us develop our own networks and confidence skills.
Recognising the training potential that volunteering provides, Societe Generale has created a personal development tool that enables employees to select volunteering opportunities which enhance their skills, complementing traditional training and their annual performance objectives.
