Documentation
Do you think you have been the victim of a scam? We would like to remind you that there are security measures that we must all follow.
Find out below the main fraud risks:
Phishing
Phishing: Fraudsters pose as a trusted entity to obtain sensitive information.
Why would your bank ask you for information it already has?
To obtain sensitive information by posing as a trusted entity such as a bank, a state authority, an operator, etc. Fraudsters, as a common practice, send an email to a large number of internet users. The alarming nature of the message will persuade some of the recipients to connect to a fake website and provide their information.
Sharpen your instincts: what to do if you receive a suspicious email
- Be aware of signs to watch for: an inconsistent email address, grammatical errors, misspellings or typos, a link to a website without a full URL: Don't click on the links
- Do not open attachments
- No reply
Remember that a company will never ask you for information it already has (for example, in the case of a bank, your account number). Limit the information you reveal (social networks, websites, templates, signature, etc.).
Be suspicious of an unusual request and follow your instincts:
- If a request seems suspicious, it probably is.
- Verify the legitimacy of any request by calling a previously obtained number.
VISHING
Vishing (voice phishing) is a telephone fraud.
A scammer calls you and tries to get your personal and financial information.
How to detect fraud?
Scammers rarely call landline numbers in a particular region. When you answer, you hear an automated message telling you that unusual transactions have been posted to your checking account and asking you to immediately call a particular phone number. When you call that number you receive an automated message or a person pretending to be a bank employee asking for account details and passwords. This information will be used later to steal your identity, make purchases online or access your bank account.
The alternative version: someone calls you pretending to be an employee of your bank and informs you of a suspicious purchase. At that time they ask for personal information to verify if the fraud has occurred.
What to do if you receive a scam call
Fraudsters use stress and fear to create a sense of urgency that you may have been the victim of a scam. Never reveal personal information, your bank or any other type of phone. If you receive a message asking you to call a particular number, do not call that number.
